What could be a more appropriate title for this beautiful new Barry Rose CD album than ‘Rose of the Valley.’ A tireless campaigner for the community of the New South Wales region known as the Hunter Valley, Barry was elected to Scone Shire Council in 1987 as deputy president, aged 52, and in 1990 became shire president, a position he held until Merriwa and Murrurundi shires amalgamated in 2004. He was elected first mayor of Upper Hunter Shire in 2005 and re-elected by popular vote each successive year until taking time off when illness struck in 2008. Barry received the Order of Australia medal in 2002 for services to harness racing and local government. Somehow, this multi talented yet humble cricketer, horseman and harness racehorse breeder managed to hide the fact he was also an extremely talented pianist who had accompanied many international stars in earlier years; – that is, until being rediscovered and releasing two CD albums which became huge sellers. Due to his generosity of donating all proceeds to charity, thousands of dollars have been raised for worthy projects. Following a mercifully brief bout with cancer, Barry Rose passed away January 19, 2009. Thankfully, for the many avid collectors who receive so much enjoyment from his music, Barry’s wife Jan discovered these 25 new recording masters Barry made for release on the Resonance label. To continue his commitment she pledged all proceeds to charity from sales of this most entertaining album. Barry would be absolutely delighted to know his unique musical style continues to bring pleasure to so many.
Rose Of The Valley is the third of three Barry Rose albums now available for download.
