The Jazzmakers were a very popular Australian ensemble. Personnel: Derek Reynolds, trumpet; Ray Gordon, trombone; Denis Ball, clarinet; Brian Cochrane, piano; Fred Stephenson, bass; George Woods, guitar/banjo; leader Allan Leake, drums. Vocalist Helen Violaris joins them on two album tracks: Cow Cow Boogie and Mama’s Gone, Goodbye. All tracks were recorded in 1964 by Crest Records Australia (audio: Marcus Herman) and were released on two 7-inch EP’s. A track that really moves is their forceful driving version of Duke Ellington’s classically simple riff  ‘C Jam Blues.’
