Stephen Foster (1826-1864) America’s brilliant composer of words and music, wrote some of the most beautiful, most romantic songs ever written. And to think they came from the pen of a man who knew very little personal happiness, but whose talent and sensitivity enabled him to capture so accurately the times in which he lived. The James Watsford Chorale, with musical arrangements and direction by Doug Surman, do justice to the essence of Foster’s greatest works.
